Liam for VP
Vote Liam to make 25/26 UBSC's best year ever

About me

Life
Yooooooo! About me.... well. I've lived in the UK, Australia, and the States. I love travelling, camping, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, cooking, chess, travelling, hiking, sports, climbing, and soooooo much more, I always need to be doing something and because of that I'm always doing something and am always super keen to try something new.

Skiing
I've been skiing for 8 seasons now, I think. I learnt when I moved to Boston and I haven't looked back since. I've had the tremendous fortune of living near a mountain, and so get about 40 days of skiing a season. I've also boarded a bit, but I'm not any good. I love freestyle, but am keen about pretty much any type of skiing. I also love ski movies... ask me about zootspace. iykyk

Experience
I've worked in skiing, worked with ski brands, organized deals, was president of my high schools ski club, been working alongside my studies since I was 14, and overall have a great background in multitasking and handling diverse and applied workloads. I can handle pretty much anything that's thrown at me and do it with enthusiasm.
Some of my skills and experience and that sorta shit

Oh yeaaahh, time to brag.

I've been working alongside studies/school since I was 14, at times working 2 jobs while starting a business and studying. I was also president of ski club at my high school, which gave me the experience required to organized student ski trips, dealing with resorts, health and safety, and other such bureaucracy. I've also organized comps, railjams, etc. and know how to make that stuff happen alongside other local schools.

I also have tons of experience dealing with brands, especially ski brands. I worked for a cross country ski area for years, and had to work with all of those brands with getting inventory, demos, and getting brand reps out for events, all of which need to be done for UBSC as well.

On a personal level, I've secured deals with mannnyyyyy ski brands. See the video if you don't believe me. I think its over there ← I get between 30-80% off on ALL of those brands you see there. ALL of them.

Point being, if you like free things and discounts, vote for me. If I can get those deals, I can get YOU those deals. We all know how expensive this sport can be.

Commitment
I understand how much work VP is. I spoke to Neva and Phoebe extensively about it and believe I can handle the time commitment. I want UBSC to have a VP that has the time to dedicate to this incredible club. Alongside the workload, I just want to ensure that everyone knows HOW committed to UBSC I am. I attended BUDS, BUISC, AJAM, Climbing sessions, GIAG, almost every freestyle training, most socials, and main trip (of course.) I dedicate all of my free time to pursuits related to skiing, and especially to UBSC. If you want someone as VP who regularly attends trainings and comps and so has a great understanding on how these events run and how to make them succeed, I'm your best choice!

My plans
That's enough about me. Time to learn about what I'm going to do for YOU. I assume that's why you're here.

Media/ Promo
UBSC needs to do more to attract new members. We need to offer more on our social media to do so. I have experiencing managing social media pages with millions of views, so I have the skills and experience required to get the job done when it comes to pushing UBSC to a new group of students.

I will work with media rep and the rest of committee to push posts, edits, physical media, in person events, increased appeal at freshers fair, and generally do everything in my power to bring more people into UBSC, using my extensive and unrivaled expertise. See some of the viewership of accounts I manage over there ← (can't show some due to contracts but oh well)

I will ensure that UBSC's viewership and membership GROWS in the next year at an unprecedented level.
More promo/Brand
In addition to social media, I also develop physical media/ posters as part of my work as a director of marketing/ freelance designer. Check out some of my work on this page. I will make the lives of media, brand, and committee in general MUCH easier with all of my experience and knowledge. I can assist with creating content, provide advice, and generally just do what's needed of me.

If you want some super sick media and as much of it as possible in order to improve the club, get more members, and make sure you have some super cool merch, then I'm the VP candidate for you.

Beginners/ growing the ski core.
I want to bring more people into UBSC. But I don't want to accomplish this by bringing in more members who just come on the ski trip. I want to bring in beginners as well as experienced skiers/boarders and creating a community around a shared love of the sport. I want to use our name recognition as a club to grow a broader community of passionate/core members who go to BUDS, BUISC, AJAM, TT, etc. I want to provide more of an emphasis on not just teaching beginners how to ski or board, but how to race, or freestyle, or ski in the backcountry. We should be a club that provides ALL of the resources we can to every member in order for each of them to improve as much as possible. As VP, I will work tirelessly over the summer to make sure we create a great impression on the freshers from the first week, the first social, the give it a go, and the first training sessions to ensure that we bring in as many new members, and new core members as possible, and that we retain as many of them as we can.

Trainings
I want to increase the accessibility and capacity of trainings for both race and freestyle. I will work with both captains as well as the treasurer to bring prices down, increase training capacity, and ensure that everyone of any level feels accepted and fulfilled by training. I want to increase the % of UBSC members who attend training, and the best way to do this is to increase capacity and reduce cost, both of which I promise to do.

Accesibility
Skiing in the UK has a massive accessibility and equity problem.

As someone who has volunteered in community development, equal access to opportunity initiatives as well as antiracism work, I've seen firsthand how prohibitive socioeconomic status, race, identity, and location can be for participating in sport, especially one as expensive as skiing. 50% of skiers in the UK earn over £50,000 a year, more than £13,000 higher than the national average. Additionally, participation in skiing by people of colour in the UK is "too low to register" according to the BBC. I find these figures appauling. Skiing, like any sport, is an incredible opportunity to bring people together, and yet, its so homogenous.

UBSC has an incredible opportunity to improve access to Snowsports, and we NEED to be doing more to achieve this. As VP, I will make improving equity a top priority by reducing cost barriers and working to change UBSC from being looked at as a club for only posh people.

I think it would be hugely beneficial to have a VP with a purely state school education, who's lived his entire life in working class areas and who has volunteered repeatedly to improve access to opportunity. I have the necessary experience and perspective to truly make a difference in the culture and perception of UBSC.

General admin
In regards to the general admin role of VP, I'm super keen. I would love to organize events, bu-coaches (sorry Jerry), assist with socials/event booking, and just generally take care of any task that's been left unaccounted for. I will stay super on top of anything I need to do and be proactive when it comes to finding jobs that need doing.

I see the role of VP as being best filled by someone who has the insight to notice something that needs doing, and then the ability to do it before it becomes an issue. I believe I have both the knowledge and knowhow to do this effectively, as well as the time to dedicate to getting things done right.

I'll get the dirty deeds done, dirt cheap (shoutout AC/DC)

Closing thoughts
Woah! what a ride... glad you made it this far. Hope I didn't bore you. I truly love this club and want to improve it for everyone. I will truly give everything as VP. I will dedicate all of my time, knowledge, and expertise to make this club as good as it can be. If you want to chat about what I have to say, or just want to ask what I think of the new Vishnu Tanks (so cool) or tell me that race poles actually do look cool (no they don't,) feel free. I love to chat.
